If you have noticed some issues with this site just know that I have updated my blog to Wordpress 2.8 this week and some of the plugins (i.e. lightbox) are not working. Also I am trying to clean up my categories. Hopefully this will make the site run a little better once I finish. Thanks for your patience :)

United States Income Map (2006 by State)

In an earlier post, United States Household Income Map, I had 2000 data by Census tract via Social Explorer. The Census just releases their 2006 American Community Survey with updated income data which is available using their thematic mapping tool. (Unfortunately the map is not available by county for all counties, so I am posting it by state). If you would like to drill down on the data go to US Census Thematic Map of Median Household Income.

Technical difficulties due to a glitch at my ISP meant my blog was not available for the last 3 days. Hopefully, your access to tasty income data visualizations will not be interrupted again :)

My blog went down this weekend due to a very large spike in visitors from a link on Reddit’s home page. While this site has received links from Reddit in the past, it was a jump of 13,000 visitor on Saturday that cause my ISP to temporarily bring the site down and move it to another server. Most the site is working again except for the Contact Us page.

NYTimes: More Than Ever, It Pays to Be the Top Executive

The New York Times had a graph on executive income for the article More Than Ever, It Pays to Be the Top Executive that shows the growing income gap between chief executives and their top subordinates. The article goes on to mention this “winner take all” behavior can be found in other industries like sports and entertainment. You can see more examples of this in the following graphs:
