Great site! I’ve never studied economics, and I was wondering where people get the raw data used to create such graphs? After googling for a bit, I came across bea.gov and census.gov which had quite a bit, but finding exactly what you want isn’t very easy.
Especially for older data, pre-WW2. Specifically, after reading the post where you commented on this story http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080630/extreme_inequality I thought it would be neat to graph other items over it. GDP, national debt, personal debt, etc.. but finding numbers as far back as 1917 is tricky. At least for a person who hasn’t ever tried to look it up before.
Any advice on good raw data sources?
Bad graphs. Why? Y-axis multipliers not stated for dollar figures. How can the creators have missed this?
