North America Income, Education, Employment: 2006

Screenshot from an interactive mapping tool from OECD Regional Statistics. While you can look at any region I choose North America. The color indicates the GDP per capita: blue is low income while red is high income. The graph on the right is comparing % of population with high school education vs unemployment. (The red circle, indicating very high income, belongs to Washington DC)

  • I am a little confused about the unemployment vs education graph. Is it saying that the lower the education level, the lower the unemployment? It runs counter to what I have always heard.

  • It seems like the data for Mexico isn’t on the same basis as the data for USA. The unemployment rate is shown as very low for Mexico (1-5%). If you run the employment rate figures, they are 56-65% for Mexico. This doesn’t add up.
