I think we best be getting on with the promise of making America energy independent.Iran just asked OPEC to reduce production by yet another 1.5 million barrels per day. This past year and the record gas prices played a huge part in our economic meltdown and seriously damaged our society. We keep planning to spend BILLIONS on bailouts and stimulus plans.Bail us out of our dependence on foreign oil. Make electric plug in car technology more affordable. It cost the equivalent of 60 cents a gallon to drive an electric plug in car. The electric could be generated from wind or solar. Get with it! Utilize free sources such as wind and solar. Stop throwing away money on things that don’t work. Invest in America and it’s energy independence. Create cheap clean energy, create millions of badly needed green collar jobs. Put America back to work. It is a win-win situation. We have to become more poractive citizens, educate ourselves and demand our elected officials move this country forward into the era of energy independence. Jeff Wilson’s new book The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW outlines a plan for America to wean itself off oil. We need a plan and we need it now! http://www.themanhattanprojectof2009.com
Get your butts on mass transit and you can have the same effect today as these future technologies will bring in the decades to come. Telework is more potent than any electric car you could ever dream up. Its not for everyone, but its far from being utilized to its potential.
If only it were that simple Dave. Mass transit is not available to most of us. If it were I’d be on it. And, I have to disagree with you. They are not decades away …

I think that it’s almost time to have a depression so that those that don’t know how to live by their actual means can understand the real value of a dollar. Our government has created a situation that is just like the people living paycheck to paycheck. I was in the military for 10 years and watched people waste money on things that weren’t necessary for the job or for morale even just because they needed to spend the money so they didn’t lose it from the budget the next year. I then worked for a state agency that did the same thing. Our government wastes more money on unnecessary items than probably most of the people in the US. While we can sit here and place blame the fact is until people realize that credit isn’t an income, our country will fail. We will not prosper in an economy that gives a false sense of prosperity. We spend nearly every cent of the GDP in our debt alone, our children won’t have a country if we continue this path. All these government agencies and “fixes” are only extending the inevitable, which is the failure of our financial system. There is no checks and balances on the money being GIVEN to the banks and other companies to “fix” our economy which has allowed them to misuse the tax money the same way they misused the equity of their businesses. Those at the top get richer and the rest of us have to pay for it. When will we as a society realize how wrong this is. People really need to educate themselves on their elected officials and write to them to stop this downward spiral.
