It’s really interesting to see this data on a map. I had no idea idea that the unemployment rate in California was so high.
It’s also interesting to see that the colors fade in the Midwest. Maybe there’s more job security there?
I’d love to see this in a Flash app, something with a slider to let you control the fading of frames into each other.
Note to self: learn Flash.
I live in Madison WI. Because I have lived in other states, I know how bad it is out there. I work in healthcare so my job has been stable so far. Since I have lived in Madison, WI I have noticed that Madison seems to be unaffected by the current recession situation in the country. I went to the mall today a week before Thanksgiving, had to park across the street… lines everywhere. No sales (not any different then any other year). My husband knows a few store owners and they said business is better then last year.
I am shocked to see what I see here, yet know what is truly going on out there. Madison may be cold in the winter, but it is beautiful in the summer, so for now I am staying here and feeling a little optomistic…. yet I have my emergency supplies and money ready for what may come. Interested in any replies or input if there are other areas nationwide that are doing well.
