From the IRS Tax Stats at a Glance, I have graphed the percent of returns compared to percent of dollars collected (before refunds), broken out by the type of tax: Individual, Employment, Corporate, Excise, Estate, and Gift.

    It would be much more relevant to show the income of those taxed versus the amount of tax dollars collected as I am sure a very very small percentage of the population is paying the great majority of the taxes collected by our government. Add on to that the dubious idea of taxing the corporations earnings and then the distributions, interest and dividends earned when received.

    Our system is designed to encourage everyone to spend every cent you earn and borrow to the hilt then when you cant repay a legally binding contract ( a mortgage) simply walk away and the government will take care of everything. Oh, they’ll even send you a check when they are running a deficit!!!
